British Transport Police are appealing for information after a woman was approached by a stranger who attempted to hug her before threatening to hit her.

The victim was approached by the man in the upstairs satellite lounge outside the toilets at Manchester Piccadilly station on Saturday, 4 June at 8.20pm.

Investigating officer PC Rebecca Swift said: “The victim was approached by a stranger who tried to engage her in conversation. As she tried to move away he attempted to hug her. When she told him to leave her alone he became aggressive and raised his clenched fists at her, threatening to punch her.

“Quite understandably the victim felt intimidated and frightened by the man’s behaviour and was left shaken and upset by the incident. No-one should be made to feel uncomfortable, intimated or concerned for their safety in this way, it is simply not acceptable.”

After reviewing CCTV, officers are today issuing images of a man they want to speak to about the incident.

“The man in the images is someone who I think has information about this incident. Who is he?” added PC Swift.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 224 of 16/6 . Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
